FAQ

Q: WTF is Grande Mesa?

We are an opinion forum. We make general and oftentimes biased observations about local, national and international socio-politics. We’re not an actual news outlet although the method we employ is journalistic. If you have any questions, insights, observations you can send them to steve[dot]peralta [at] grandemesa.org.

Q: The name is wrong. It’s “mesa grande” or “gran mesa.”

I chose the name ‘Grande Mesa’ back in 1996 when I started the print magazine in Denver. I wanted to tie Colorado with the magazine concept. You may have heard about Grand Mesa National Forest in northwestern Colorado. Well, that’s basically where the name came from. I wasn’t really thinking about proper Spanish syntax at the time.

Q: What’s with the ghetto look?

Cuz that’s where I’m from, fool.

Q: If that’s where you’re from, how come you’re writing about politics and sh*t? How come you’re not giving me some news on the next lowrider show or when Cypress Hill’s next show is?

Cuz I said, that’s why.

Q: You’re one of those coconuts that thinks he’s too good, huh?

mmmm… coconut…

Q: How often do you update the site?

I update just about daily. There’s plenty to write about.

Q: What city is that in the skyline?

That’s San Antonio, Tejas, where I’ve been for about 6 or 7 years. Lost track. Before that I was in Denver, my hometown. Before that I was in Ohio for a bit for college and before that, NYC and Sheffield (England).

Q: There’s something wrong with your site. I can’t do this or that.

I’m still working on it.

Q: Do you have a job? How is it you have the time for all this?

I have a job. I’m a full-time programmer for a cool little company and I have my own company called Elati Street. I’ve been working with a bunch of cool people in both jobs. I also have another Web project called NeoAztlan which is on hiatus while I redesign and refocus it. It’s a site about contemporary art. I’m proud of what I’ve done with it so far. It just needs to be tightened up so I need a break from it to think about it.
