SAN ANTONIO - The cyclone that ripped through Myanmar last weekend killed at least 22,500, according to estimates from the ruling military government. Another 41,000 are said to be missing, however the count could rise. The death toll could top 100,000, by some estimates. Hundreds of thousands of people are without shelter and disease resulting from the killer storm threatens to kill thousands more if effective relief does not reach the isolated country soon. Relief organizations from all over the globe began mobilizing this week after the ruling regime issued a rare call for help. Meanwhile, topping headlines in the U.S. was Barack Obama’s victory over Hillary Clinton in the North Carolina primary which presumptively clinched the presidential nomination for Obama. The news coverage affirms the U.S. isolation from the rest of the world. |
